Stepping Stones North Edinburgh
Awarded £2,000 to support towards activity and food costs for Stepping Stones summer programme.
Over the summer of 2024, Stepping Stones North Edinburgh hosted a variety of activities and days out for local families in the Forth area. Across 13 trips and events, 59 families, including 96 children, were able to experience a varied summer programme and make lasting memories. This ranged from a trip to Almond Valley Heritage Farm, Fringe Festival events, an outdoor assault course, a 1970s roller disco, a visit to Lauriston Castle and a picnic under the trees at the Botanic Gardens. Lunches and snacks were provided at every event to ensure that all families could take part without financial pressure.
For many families living on low incomes, the summer holidays can be a particularly difficult period, making these opportunities especially valued. As one parent shared: “Stepping Stones summer programmes are a highlight for our family. It gives us opportunities to explore new places we wouldn’t usually go.” These activities continue to play an important role in reducing isolation, supporting wellbeing, and giving families accessible ways to spend time together during the school break.
