Awarded £3000 to provide free exercise opportunities to local people through a free Legs, Bums, and Tums fitness class.
Over 25 weeks Lochend Amateur Boxing Club hosted a free weekly “Legs, Bums and Tums” fitness classes, in which exercises were catered to the ab
ilities of those attending. The grant benefited local community members who cannot afford to take part in exercise classes otherwise. People from a wide range of backgrounds in the Craigentinny area attended, getting a boost to their physical, mental and emotional health. It also offered a safe space for participants to meet people new and build social networks that grow to exist outside the gym. Attendees have become friends, sharing tips on job interviews, pet sitting, and childcare. For some, this class and the connections made became a vital lifeline to support them through life events, one attendee said “I really enjoy going to my local community fitness class. The classes cater for all levels, help me to keep fit and meet new people.”
