Balgreen Tunnel
Awarded £4130 To have a colourful mural designed painted inside Balgreen Tunnel.
Balgreen Tunnel is a 45-metre pedestrian underpass serving as a key commuter walkway for residents in surrounding neighbourhoods and the tram network. The community grant fund transformed it from an unwelcoming passageway into a colourful, bright, and safe environment through the creation of a floor to ceiling mural.

The mural was designed by Balgreen school children who were inspired by the lcal wildlife and painted by a local graffiti artist. Its imagery includes otters, ducks, foxes, herons, hedgehogs, frogs, rabbits, badgers, birds, bees, beetles and butterflies. Every plant and creature depicted in the artwork can be found in the adjacent Saughton Park and along the Water of Leith. The nursery use the tunnel mural for education on wet days.
The artwork has helped to build a sense of community spirit and ownership among people in the neighbourhood.
