Awarded £2950 to support Summer of Stories 2024.

Over the summer of 2024 Craigmillar Literacy Trust hosted eight events, using fun and creative approaches to literacy through storytelling. The free sessions were an opportunity for families to engage in activities with local artists, authors, illustrators and performers, to have new experiences they might not otherwise because of location or cost. One parent said of their children’s experience “They loved it wished there were more classes.”

Events were aimed at 4-12 year olds, with 130 children and 87 adults attending across the eight sessions.

Families developed a sense of community, belonging and inclusion through social relationships in the welcoming spaces, while enjoying refreshments. Parents/carers increased skills in telling and choosing stories with children, and supporting literacy skills. Children gained confidence in literacy, creativity, learning and communication skills through their participation in activities.
