Anchor institutions play a key role in community wealth building. They are large organisations rooted in a place (such as universities, hospitals, or councils) that shape the local economy. Â鶹ӳ» is one of many anchor institutions in Edinburgh.
We can use our role as an employer, buyer of goods and services, land and property owner, investor and service provider to support positive outcomes for local people and organisations. By adopting community wealth building approaches, we can make sure these roles benefit Edinburgh as much as possible.
We are using community wealth building to support our 3 strategic priorities from the Council Business Plan 2023 to 2027
- Create good places to live and work
- End poverty in Edinburgh
- Tackle the twin climate and nature crisis by 2030
It also helps us prepare for the Community Wealth Building (Scotland) Bill, which is currently going through the Scottish Parliament.
