Work to improve Lawnmarket and Upper Bow
Update 13 February 2026
We have been reviewing any outstanding work and the snagging list for the recent project to improve the street with the contractor, Luddon. We will share the programme of work with you once it’s finalised.
We are continuing to discuss the automated bollards at the junction of Lawnmarket and George IV Bridge / Bank Street. Installation is dependent on the scaffolding from the Radisson G&V Hotel being removed. The two existing bollards will continue to be operated manually.
A mix of automated and standard bollards are also due to be installed on Johnston Terrace. To keep disruption to a minimum, these will be installed at the same time as those on the Lawnmarket. We expect installation to take 2 to 3 weeks and this would be done outside of peak tourism periods.
We will need to install power boxes at both locations. These will need to be situated on the pavement. We are reviewing locations and we will be back in touch with further information.
