Translation and interpreting services

Support for meeting with Council services

We have a translation and interpreting service for different languages and support for British Sign Language (BSL) users. We can also provide information in other formats.

For example, we can organise support from someone who speaks your language if you or a family member is attending an appointment with one of our services. This can be done

  • in person
  • on the telephone
  • online using Microsoft Teams.

If you need this service for a meeting with someone from the Council, please advise them what you need in plenty time to allow them to arrange support.

British sign language: Contact Scotland BSL

If you use BSL, you can contact us direct by using Contact Scotland BSL. This is a free telephone relay service which helps with making and receiving calls from hearing callers. As a Contact Scotland BSL user, you can connect to an experienced, qualified BSL video interpreter within minutes through the app or online using your

  • PC
  • Apple Mac
  • tablet
  • smartphone.

You can use this to contact any of our Council services including housing and schools. You will need the contact details of the person or team in the Council you want to contact for the BSL interpreter to use.

You can also use it to contact other organisations like Police and NHS as well as businesses.

Find out how to contact us using on their website.

Other formats and languages

We can also provide Council information in other languages and different formats including

  • large print
  • Braille
  • audio.

Look out for the ‘happy to translate’ symbol on our documents and leaflets. There will be a unique code beside it which you can use to request a translation or other format from our interpretation and translation team. Where you see this symbol and information, you can request the information in other languages and formats. Please quote the unique reference number when asking us.
