Working with residents and businesses through construction
We held two drop-in sessions for residents and businesses - 30 September and 1 October, 3pm to 7pm, 17 The Loan, Queensferry, Scotland, EH30 9SD
We understand that construction work is disruptive and can affect how you go about your daily lives or run your business.
Unfortunately, some disruption and noise is inevitable, but we will work with you to reduce impact as much as possible. We have plans to keep this to a minimum, and we are co-ordinating our work with other ongoing and scheduled works in the area.
Safety is our priority
During construction, traffic management measures will be installed and maintained to make sure the works can be carried out safely for everyone, including residents, businesses and our workforce.
Parking and loading
Some parking and loading bays will be suspended to allow for traffic management and safe access to the site. Temporary loading/unloading areas will be set up for deliveries. Exact dates and information about parking restrictions will be displayed on yellow signs before work begins.
Access
We have set up designated logistical points along the High Street to help with access including deliveries, blue badge holders and other logistical needs.
We have reversed the one-way system to allow local access from the east, which will help with traffic coming in and out of the area. This will be strictly for local access only and some parking will be temporarily removed along affected sections during this phase to create a turning circle for vehicles.
There will be full pedestrian access to all properties throughout this phase.
Waste collections
Â鶹ӳ» waste team will carry out twice weekly communal bin collections using a smaller vehicle which will make access easier.
We ask that businesses liaise directly with their business waste providers to explain the set up of the High Street during the various construction phases.
Supporting businesses
We want to make sure that access to your business or property is maintained and will work with you throughout construction.
Disabled access during works can be challenging, and you will be able to speak to the contractor on site with any specific requests. For example, if you know you have an appointment with someone who may need special assistance, we will do everything we can to support this.
We also have information to help you plan ahead and run your business during construction.
A logistics officer is on site during construction times who can help with any deliveries that you have planned.
Keeping in touch
Alongside regular meetings with local stakeholders and the Queensferry Business Collective, we will keep you up to date on the project via the latest news section of these webpages.
Claims
In the unlikely event you experience damage, loss or harm to yourself, your belongings or property while the project is in progress you may wish to make a claim for compensation.
Before making a claim for compensation, please be aware that there is no automatic right to compensation from the Council. When you submit a Public Liability claim it starts a legal process and compensation is only offered where there is a legal requirement to do so.
If you have your own insurance arrangements in place providing cover for loss you may wish to make a claim from this. This should mean that the matter is dealt with more quickly, as there is not the requirement to investigate and establish negligence. If your insurer believes that fault lies with the Council, they may contact us to seek to recover their costs. You may also have to advise your insurers of any loss to ensure compliance with insurance terms and conditions – please check your policy. The Council is not liable for any lack of declaration to your own insurer.
If you believe you have a claim please email queensferrytowncentre@edinburgh.gov.uk in the first instance detailing:
- Description of the incident
- Location of the incident
- Date of the incident
- Any estimates or receipts for damage that you are claiming for
- Photographic evidence
- Any evidence available showing condition of property ahead of works commencing
While we will process any claim as quickly as possible, as each claim is different, our claim handler is not able to give a set timescale for processing them. They may also need to request more information if, for example, the documentation provided is incomplete and/or requires further clarification.
