Children and young people's complaints
Children and young people have the right to share their views and be listened to. If something goes wrong, they have the right to complain.
For this purpose, a child or young person is anyone under 18.
How we handle complaints from children and young people
When we receive a complaint from a child or young person, we follow principles set by the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman (SPSO). These are based on rights in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child -
.
We have a Child Friendly Complaints Process based on these SPSO principles. This means children and young people can complain and share their views in a way they feel comfortable with.
When this process applies
The Child Friendly Complaints Process applies when a complaint about a Council service is made
- by a child or young person on their own
- by someone acting on behalf of a child or young person, such as a relative, friend or advocate
- when a complaint may affect a child or young person.
