Request a collection of household bulky waste items

If you have large items at home that you no longer need and are still in good condition, you can have them collected by an organisation listed on Scotland's Re-use Tool.

You might also find our local Edinburgh Reuse Tool helpful. Find out  more generally.

Before you book an uplift

Our booking system will be switched off for maintenance on Sundays from 4am until 11am. It won't be possible to book an uplift between those times.  We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

There is a charge of £5 for each individual item uplifted, but you don’t need to pay if you or a member of the household receive Council Tax reduction. Please note that this does not include people who receive other Council Tax discounts and exemptions, such as single occupancy discount.

Up to 5 items will be collected per uplift. We can only uplift domestic items, not commercial waste. Items should be able to be lifted by 2 people. If larger items need to be broken down, for example, a bed frame, headboard, mattress, each piece counts as a separate item, and you need to pay for each one separately. Large sofas and L shaped sofas which need to be unclipped, will count as separate items.

Putting your items out for an uplift

You must put all items on the pavement in front of your property by 7am on the day of collection. You must not put them out at any other time. We will only collect the items you specified at the time of booking.

Loose items, especially bundles of wood, must be tied securely and be able to be lifted by two people.

Please tape all glass items, such as doors and glass shelves.

Assisted collection

If all members of your household can not put your items out for collection due to a disability or medical condition, you can ask for an assisted collection which means we will come into your house or garden to collect the item(s).

Please make sure our teams can remove your items without having to move any other furniture. We will not collect any items left on soft surfaces such as grass as it makes it difficult for our crews to collect.

  • location of each item – for instance at the back of the garden or under the window in the kitchen.
